The Bank Guard with the Serpent Tattoo

I don’t know if this SOP in our post-Occupy world here in NYC, but all this week I’ve observed a new personality at the Bank of America branch near my office (19 & Park). Normally there is a “greeter” there near the ATMs, placed to issue sunny hellos to anyone coming in to grab cash for the week, or to direct you to a teller or customer rep should you require service. But now there’s also this big burly bald galoot in an ill-fitting suit, with a visible snake tattoo rising up his neck past his collar and licking his ear. He seems friendly enough but he’s obviously muscle, and so incongruous when paired with the chirpy greeters, with whom he’s usually chatting, that I do a double-take every time I see him. It’s like gangsters have moved in and taken over the friendly local S&L. Though of course I suppose what’s really happening is that the local gangster bank has stopped pretending to be all that friendly.

Here in Charlottesville, Virginia, there were rent-a-cops outside every Bank of America branch yesterday.
